/stɒŋk/ to walk with bouncing, long-legged strides. See: Jones’ first visit to Chris’s houseThe word is not explicitly used in the stories David Jones, David Jones, and The destruction of Manchester; but “he strode forth, with long, bouncing steps”, “walking with bouncing, long-legged strides”, and “he bounced… in true kangaroo manner” clearly indicate stonking. I seem to think that the word — used onomatopoeically: “stonk! stonk! stonk!” — was a coining of Peter Gooding’s (cf. To cure me of being a “claustrobe”). |
